Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join a fully remote engineering team in South Africa. You'll design, analyze, and develop complex mechanical systems for renewable energy products, collaborating with remote cross-functional engineers on advanced simulations and manufacturing drawings.

The role requires 8+ years in mechanical design, a Master’s or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, and strong expertise in SolidWorks, ANSYS, and CFD.

Qualifications

• Master's degree or PhD in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• 8+ years of progressive mechanical design experience in energy systems or related fields.
• Proficiency with 3D CAD and simulation tools (SolidWorks, Inventor, ANSYS, COMSOL).
• Strong understanding of thermodynamics, fluids, materials science, and structural analysis.
• Experience leading remote technical projects with strong communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead the mechanical design and development of novel systems and components for renewable energy applications.
• Create detailed 3D CAD models, complex assemblies, and precise manufacturing drawings using industry-leading software.
• Perform advanced engineering analyses, including FEA, CFD, and thermal analysis, to ensure design integrity and performance.
• Develop and refine design specifications, technical requirements, and performance criteria.
• Collaborate with remote cross-functional teams to ensure integrated system solutions.
• Drive the design for manufacturability and assembly with manufacturing partners.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers in the remote team.
• Conduct root cause analyses for design-related failures and implement corrective actions.
• Stay informed about advancements in mechanical engineering and renewable energy technologies.
