Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a highly experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer for a fully remote role in South Africa. You will lead design initiatives for automation systems, robotics, and advanced manufacturing equipment, using 3D CAD tools and performing in-depth simulations.

Ideal candidates bring 8+ years in mechanical design, strong knowledge of kinematics and control systems, and the ability to collaborate across virtual cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

• Master's or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or closely related discipline.
• 8+ years of progressive experience in mechanical design engineering with automation/robotics exposure.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD software: SolidWorks, CATIA, Siemens NX.
• Experience with FEA and other simulation tools.

Responsibilities

• Lead the mechanical design and development of complex automation systems and robotic cells.
• Conceptualize, design, and detail mechanical components using 3D CAD software.
• Perform stress, thermal, vibration, and kinematic simulations.
• Specify and select motors, actuators, bearings, and sensors.
• Collaborate virtually with controls, software, and manufacturing teams.
• Develop drawings, BOMs, assembly procedures, and specs.
• Oversee prototyping/testing and implement improvements.
• Mentor junior engineers and promote best practices.
• Ensure manufacturability, cost-effectiveness, and reliability.
