Job summary

Placements24 client seeks a Senior Mechanical Systems Engineer to design, develop, and integrate complex mechanical systems for automated industrial equipment. This fully remote role in South Africa offers high autonomy and cross-functional collaboration with global teams.

The ideal candidate will have a Master’s in Mechanical Engineering, 10+ years in mechanical design and systems engineering, and strong 3D CAD/FEA expertise.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 10+ years in mechanical design and systems engineering, focused on automation or complex machinery.
• Proficient in SolidWorks or Inventor and PDM/PLM systems.
• Extensive experience with FEA simulation tools.
• Strong understanding of mechatronics, control systems, and automation principles.
• Proven ability to lead complex engineering projects and mentor remotely.
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical and collaboration skills.
• Authorized to work in South Africa with reliable internet.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of complex mechanical systems for automated industrial machinery.
• Use 3D CAD for modeling, drawings, and assemblies.
• Perform mechanical analyses (stress, thermal, vibration, fatigue) using FEA.
• Specify and integrate motors, actuators, bearings, and power transmission systems.
• Collaborate virtually with electrical, control, and software teams for integration.
• Oversee prototyping, testing and validation of mechanical systems.
• Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical and system-level issues.
• Develop and maintain design specifications, test procedures, and manuals.
• Contribute to engineering standards and best practices for system design.
• Ensure designs comply with industry standards and safety regulations.
