Placements24 is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer for its remote-first team based out of Vereeniging. You will design, develop, and maintain backend systems that power our core applications and blockchain integrations.

You will work with a global engineering team to build scalable, secure services, implement APIs, manage data with SQL/NoSQL, and optimize performance. The role requires 5+ years in backend dev and strong knowledge of blockchain fundamentals and cloud platforms.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional backend development experience.
• Proficiency in at least one backend language (Node.js, Python, Go, or Java).
• Experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases.
• Solid understanding of blockchain fundamentals and smart contracts.
• Experience integrating with blockchain APIs and SDKs.
• Familiarity with AWS/Azure/GCP and containerization.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain backend code for scalable systems.
• Develop APIs for blockchain networks and third‑party services.
• Implement robust data management with SQL/NoSQL databases.
• Develop microservices and ensure system reliability.
• Collaborate with frontend, product, and other stakeholders.
• Apply security best practices and write tests to ensure quality.
• Monitor performance, troubleshoot issues, and optimize.
• Stay updated on backend tech and blockchain developments.
