Placements24 is hiring a Senior Software Engineer (Backend) for a fully remote role across South Africa, with Mossel Bay, Western Cape as a focus area for operations. You will design, develop, and maintain robust backend systems and APIs powering cutting-edge applications.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years of backend experience, strong knowledge of RESTful APIs, microservices, and cloud containers, and collaborates well in a distributed, asynchronous team.

Qualifications

• Degree or demonstrable experience in Computer Science/Software Engineering.
• 5+ years of backend experience.
• Proficiency in at least one modern backend language (Java, Python, Go, Node.js).
• Strong experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB).
• Experience designing and consuming RESTful APIs; familiarity with microservices and distributed systems.
• Understanding of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and containerization (Docker).
• Experience with Git and modern CI/CD practices.
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and debugging skills.
• Strong communication in a remote asynchronous environment.
• Experience with Agile methodologies.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain backend code using Java, Python, Go, or Node.js.
• Develop and manage robust APIs integrating internal and external services.
• Collaborate with frontend teams and product managers to implement features.
• Ensure performance, quality, and responsiveness of applications.
• Implement security and data protection measures.
• Write unit/integration/end-to-end tests for quality.
• Troubleshoot, debug, and upgrade systems.
• Participate in code reviews and architectural discussions.
• Stay updated with emerging technologies and propose improvements.
