Placements24 is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer for its remote-first team based out of Vereeniging. You will design, develop, and maintain backend systems that power our core applications and blockchain integrations.

You will work with a global engineering team to build scalable, secure services, implement APIs, manage data with SQL/NoSQL, and optimize performance. The role requires 5+ years in backend dev and strong knowledge of blockchain fundamentals and cloud platforms.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional backend development experience.
• Proficiency in at least one backend language (Node.js, Python, Go, or Java).

About the Role

Our client is a forward-thinking technology company pioneering innovative solutions at the intersection of traditional finance and blockchain. We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Backend Engineer to join our fully remote team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining the backend systems that integrate our core applications with various blockchain protocols and services. You will work with a talented, globally distributed team to build robust, scalable, and secure solutions that power our next-generation products. The ideal candidate has a strong background in backend development, a solid understanding of blockchain principles, and a passion for building high-performance systems. Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain efficient, reusable, and reliable backend code using languages like Node.js, Python, or Go.
• Develop and manage APIs for seamless integration with blockchain networks (e.g., Ethereum, Polygon, Solana) and third-party services.
• Implement robust data management strategies, including database design and optimization (SQL/NoSQL).
• Develop microservices architecture and ensure scalability and reliability of backend systems.
• Work closely with frontend developers, product managers, and other stakeholders to define and implement features.
• Implement security best practices to protect sensitive data and prevent vulnerabilities.
• Write comprehensive unit and integration tests to ensure code quality and system stability.
• Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement performance optimizations.
• Stay updated on the latest backend technologies, cloud services, and blockchain developments.

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional experience in backend software development.
• Strong proficiency in at least one backend programming language (e.g., Node.js, Python, Go, Java).
• Experience with relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL) and/or NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB, Cassandra).
• Solid understanding of blockchain fundamentals, cryptocurrencies, and smart contracts.
• Experience integrating with blockchain APIs and SDKs.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Knowledge of containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) is a plus.
• Experience with version control systems (Git) and CI/CD pipelines.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in a remote, collaborative environment.
• Strong communication skills.
