Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an experienced Process Safety Engineer for a fully remote role, ideally based near Mossel Bay, Western Cape. Lead PHAs (HAZOP/LOPA), implement PSM programs, and conduct MOC safety reviews while ensuring regulatory compliance across international operations.

The role requires 7+ years in process safety within chemical industries, CSP certification is advantageous, and the candidate must be able to work effectively with distributed teams from a Mossel Bay-adjacent home

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or related field.
• 7+ years of process safety engineering experience in chemical/petrochemical industries.
• Extensive experience leading HAZOP, LOPA and other PHA methodologies.
• In-depth knowledge of PSM principles/regulations (OSHA PSM, Seveso).

Responsibilities

• Lead PHAs (HAZOP, LOPA, What-If) for new and existing chemical processes.
• Develop and implement Process Safety Management programs per standards.
• Conduct safety reviews for Management of Change processes.
• Perform risk assessments and develop mitigation plans.
• Ensure compliance with local and international safety regulations.
• Investigate process safety incidents and root causes.
• Develop and deliver process safety training.
• Maintain process safety documentation and records.
• Collaborate with engineering and operations to integrate safety into design and operation.
• Stay current with process safety technology and methodologies.
