Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Principal Chemical Engineer for a fully remote role. You will lead major process design projects, from concept to detailed engineering, and develop PFDs/P&IDs, while ensuring safety and regulatory compliance across global clients.

You will apply simulation tools (Aspen Plus, UNISIM, CHEMCAD), mentor junior engineers, and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-impact solutions from anywhere with a strong internet connection.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemical Engineering.
• Minimum 15 years of progressive experience in chemical process design, leading major projects.
• Extensive experience with process simulation software (Aspen Plus, UNISIM, CHEMCAD).
• Proven expertise in developing PFDs, P&IDs, and mass/energy balances.
• Strong knowledge of process safety management, PHAs/Hazops, and risk assessment.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Ability to lead teams and manage remote, complex projects.

About the Role

Our client, a global leader in the design and implementation of advanced chemical facilities, is seeking a Principal Chemical Engineer with extensive experience in Process Design for a fully remote position. This is a senior role requiring a high degree of technical autonomy and the ability to lead complex design projects from conceptualization through to detailed engineering. You will be instrumental in developing innovative process solutions for clients worldwide, ensuring designs meet stringent safety, environmental, and operational performance criteria. The successful candidate will possess a deep understanding of process simulation, P&A development, and best practices in chemical plant design, thriving in an independent, results-driven remote work environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the conceptual and detailed design of chemical processes for new plant construction and expansions.
• Develop process flow diagrams (PFDs), piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), and equipment specifications.
• Perform rigorous process simulations and modeling using industry-standard software (e.g., Aspen Plus, UNISIM).
• Conduct process hazard analyses (PHAs) and implement safety design principles.
• Ensure designs comply with all relevant industry codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior process engineers.
• Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary engineering teams (mechanical, electrical, controls) and clients.
• Review vendor documentation and proposals related to process equipment.
