Job summary

Edgexec (Pty) Ltd in the Western Cape is seeking an IT Engineer to provide day-to-day desktop, Microsoft 365 and basic network support. The role is mostly remote with a three-month onsite rotation in Piketberg during the harvest season to boost operational support.

You will log and resolve tickets, monitor systems, assist with onboarding and device deployments, and escalate complex issues to senior engineers. An MSP background and comfort working across multiple client environments are essential.

Qualifications

• Matric / Grade 12
• IT Diploma, certificate or equivalent technical qualification
• 1-3 years' experience in technical support or a managed services environment
• Previous MSP experience is essential
• Experience supporting multiple client environments will be advantageous
• Working knowledge of Windows 10/11 and Microsoft 365
• Basic networking knowledge covering LAN/WAN, Wi‑Fi, VPN, TCP/IP, DHCP and DNS
• Basic Windows Server knowledge
• Experience with RMM, monitoring and ticketing systems
• Understanding of basic cybersecurity practices
• Fluent spoken and written English and Afrikaans
• Valid driver's licence and own reliable transport
• Own smartphone for MFA and standby communication
• Willingness and ability to work onsite in Piketberg for approximately three months each year during harvest season
• Willingness to participate in standby support outside normal working hours
• Good troubleshooting and problem-solving ability
• Strong communication and customer-service skills
• Ability to manage multiple tickets and priorities
• Strong attention to detail when managing users, permissions and technical records
• Ability to work independently and use initiative
• Willingness to learn new tools and work across different client environments
• Comfortable with light physical work onsite, including cabling, carrying equipment and occasional ladder use
• Ability to successfully complete the required background checks

Responsibilities

• Provide remote technical support to users across Microsoft 365, including Outlook, Teams, SharePoint and OneDrive
• Install, configure, update and maintain Windows 10/11 desktops and laptops
• Monitor client systems and devices using RMM tools
• Troubleshoot desktop, network and infrastructure issues
• Escalate complex technical issues to senior engineers when required
• Provide basic support for Wi-Fi, routers, switches, cabling and VPN connectivity
• Perform basic Windows Server support, including restarts, backup checks, disk-space monitoring and troubleshooting
• Assist with configuration changes and system adjustments
• Travel to Piketberg for approximately three months each year during harvest season
• Provide onsite technical support to users during the Piketberg rotation
• Install and repair physical IT equipment
• Set up workstations and run or repair network cabling
• Log, manage and resolve support tickets through the service desk
• Maintain accurate records of troubleshooting activities and resolutions
• Keep clients informed about ticket progress
• Participate in standby support outside normal working hours when required
• Manage user accounts, permissions and access requests through Active Directory and Microsoft Entra ID
• Assist with device configuration and deployments
• Monitor backups and assist with basic recovery tasks
• Maintain accurate client documentation, system diagrams and password records
• Follow cybersecurity practices including patching, secure password handling and phishing awareness
• Protect client and user information and maintain confidentiality
