Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join a fully remote product development team, ideally based in or near East London but open to remote candidates across South Africa. You will design, simulate, and implement new products from concept through manufacturing readiness, working with a distributed team to bring ideas to life.

The role emphasizes autonomy, collaboration, and impact on the product roadmap.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 3-5 years of experience in mechanical product development and design.
• Proficiency in CAD software and simulation tools.
• Understanding of manufacturing processes (injection molding, CNC, sheet metal).
• Strong remote work and communication abilities.

Responsibilities

• Lead the mechanical design and development of new products.
• Create 3D models, 2D drawings, and Bills of Materials using CAD software.
• Conduct analyses including structural, thermal, and vibration simulations.
• Collaborate with remote team members across engineering, R&D, and marketing.
• Specify materials and manufacturing processes with suppliers.
• Prepare technical documentation and support product testing and validation activities.
