Placements24 in South Africa is seeking a Remote Lead Software Architect to define the architectural vision and technical roadmap for next-generation energy management platforms. This role guides engineering teams, designs scalable microservices on cloud platforms, and integrates IoT devices, data analytics, and AI/ML to optimize energy usage.

Candidates should have a Master's in CS, 10+ years in software development, and strong leadership/communication skills.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field; a PhD is a plus.
• A minimum of 10 years of experience in software development, with at least 5 years in a lead architecture or principal engineer role.
• Proven experience designing and building large-scale, distributed systems and microservices architectures.
• Deep expertise in cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Strong understanding of data engineering, real-time data processing, and data analytics.
• Experience with IoT platforms, protocols, and integration strategies.
• Familiarity with AI/ML concepts and their application in energy management.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts.
• Experience in agile development methodologies.
• Passion for renewable energy and sustainable technology solutions.

Responsibilities

• Define and drive the overall software architecture for energy management platforms, ensuring scalability, reliability, and security.
• Design and oversee the development of microservices-based architectures, leveraging cloud-native technologies.
• Lead the selection and implementation of appropriate technologies, frameworks, and tools for software development.
• Architect solutions for integrating IoT devices, data analytics platforms, and AI/ML models for predictive energy management.
• Collaborate closely with product management, engineering teams, and stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
• Establish and enforce coding standards, design patterns, and best practices across development teams.
• Mentor and guide software engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and innovation.
• Conduct code reviews and architectural design sessions to ensure quality and adherence to standards.
• Evaluate and integrate third-party solutions and APIs to enhance platform functionality.
• Stay abreast of emerging software development trends, architectural patterns, and relevant technologies in the energy sector.
