Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a visionary Lead Data Scientist specializing in Energy Analytics to join a fully remote team. You will spearhead advanced models, guide a team of data scientists, and shape strategic direction in energy analytics from anywhere in South Africa.

You will lead predictive modeling, mentor the team, and collaborate with engineering, operations, and business development to translate insights into business impact. Strong energy analytics expertise is essential.

Qualifications

Master's or PhD in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field.
8+ years as a Data Scientist with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
Proven expertise in building and deploying ML models for energy analytics or similar domains.
Proficiency in Python or R and libraries (scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch).
Experience with big data tech (Spark, Hadoop) and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
Strong communication and presentation skills for non-technical audiences.

Responsibilities

Lead design, development, and deployment of predictive models for energy forecasting and optimization.
Mentor and manage a team of data scientists for high-quality output.
Collaborate with engineering, operations, and business development to identify analytical challenges.
Translate complex findings into clear, actionable recommendations for business leaders.
Develop and maintain robust data pipelines and infrastructure for large energy datasets.
Stay at the forefront of data science research and apply new techniques to business problems.
