Placements24 seeks a Lead Data Scientist focused on energy analytics to join a fully remote team supporting operations across South Africa, including Bloemfontein. You will lead a team of data scientists and analysts to develop predictive models, optimize energy use, and extract insights from large energy datasets.

This role drives data-informed decision-making, enhances efficiency, and advances renewable energy strategies while fostering innovation in a collaborative virtual environment.

Qualifications

• PhD or Master's in a quantitative field related to data science.
• 10+ years in data science, with at least 4 in leadership roles.
• Proven ML expertise for time-series forecasting and optimization in energy.
• Strong Python or R, SQL, and big data tech such as Spark/Hadoop.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP) and MLOps.
• Excellent problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead development and deployment of ML models for energy forecasting and optimization.
• Mentor and manage a team of data scientists and analysts.
• Collaborate with engineering, product, and business to define analytic problems.
• Design robust data pipelines and feature engineering for large energy datasets.
• Stay current with ML/AI and energy analytics techniques and adoption.
• Communicate findings clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
