Job summary

Placements24 seeks a Lead Civil Engineer to spearhead water infrastructure projects across South Africa from a remote-first setup. You will lead the design, planning, and delivery of water supply systems, treatment plants, and distribution networks for nationwide impact.

You will mentor remote engineering teams, ensure compliance with SANS and environmental regulations, and drive innovative delivery methods while supporting business development for national projects.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering with a specialization in Water Resources.
• Professional Engineer (Pr Eng) registration with ECSA.
• Minimum of 10 years of civil engineering experience focused on water infrastructure.
• Proven ability to lead complex projects and manage remote teams.
• Proficiency in water engineering software (EPANET, WaterGEMS, InfoWorks) and project management tools.
• Strong understanding of water treatment, distribution systems, and hydraulics.
• Outstanding leadership and communication skills for a remote environment.
• Based in South Africa with willingness to travel occasionally for site inspections.

Responsibilities

• Lead the conceptualization, design, and implementation of major water projects (treatment facilities and networks).
• Develop detailed project plans, specifications, and tender documents.
• Manage multidisciplinary engineering teams remotely, ensuring collaboration and communication.
• Oversee hydrological studies, water quality assessments, and hydraulic modeling.
• Ensure designs comply with SANS and environmental regulations.
• Manage project budgets, schedules, and risk mitigation strategies.
• Serve as primary technical contact for clients and stakeholders.
• Mentor and develop junior to mid-level civil engineers working remotely.
• Drive innovation in water engineering solutions and delivery methodologies.
• Contribute to strategic business development and pursuit of new projects.
