Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Lead Actuary to head actuarial functions for a major insurer in a fully remote capacity, based from Centurion, Gauteng. This senior role requires strategic leadership, expert pricing, reserving, and modelling oversight, with mentoring for a team of actuaries.

You will drive financial health, ensure regulatory compliance (Solvency II, IFRS 17), and provide insights to executive leadership while leveraging advanced actuarial tools and programming in Prophet, GGY AXIS,

Qualifications

• Fellow of the Actuarial Society of SA (FASSA) or equivalent.
• Minimum 10 years actuarial experience in insurance.
• Experience leading actuarial teams and managing complex projects.
• Advanced proficiency in Prophet or GGY AXIS and programming (Python/R/SQL).
• Strong regulatory knowledge and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead the actuarial team in pricing model development and validation.
• Oversee reserves calculation for outstanding claims and compliance.
• Develop financial models for risk, capital, and strategic planning.
• Perform experience analyses (mortality, morbidity, lapse).
• Provide actuarial expertise to product development, marketing, and finance.
• Ensure adherence to Solvency II and IFRS 17.
• Mentor junior actuaries and present findings to senior management.
• Stay abreast of industry trends and actuarial technology.
