Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Insurance Actuary to join a remote-first team. The role focuses on pricing, reserving, risk analysis, and advanced actuarial modeling to drive long-term financial health and product development.

The successful candidate will have at least 7 years of actuarial experience in insurance, fellowship or near-fellowship, and strong proficiency in Prophet, AXIS, Python, and R. This is a fully remote position serving South Africa with flexible work-life balance.

Qualifications

• Fellowship or near-fellowship in a recognized actuarial society.
• Minimum of 7 years of relevant actuarial experience within the insurance industry.
• Proven expertise in life, health, or general insurance actuarial functions.
• Strong proficiency in actuarial modeling software (e.g., Prophet, GGY AXIS) and programming languages (VBA, Python, R).
• Excellent analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills.
• Demonstrated leadership capabilities and mentoring experience.
• Ability to work independently on multiple remote projects.
• Strong communication and presentation skills; capable of explaining technical details to non-technical audiences.
• Deep understanding of South African insurance regulations and market dynamics.
• Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or related field.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain actuarial models for pricing, reserving, and financial projections.
• Analyze insurance data to assess risks, liabilities, and profitability.
• Price new and existing insurance products to remain competitive and financially sound.
• Oversee the reserving process in line with regulatory and accounting standards.
• Conduct experience studies on mortality, morbidity, lapse rates, and other key assumptions.
• Provide actuarial insights for strategic planning and forecasting.
• Collaborate with underwriting, finance, and product teams to support objectives.
• Stay updated on regulatory changes and industry trends.
• Mentor junior actuaries and actuarial students.
• Present complex findings to senior management clearly.
