About the Role

Our client, a leading construction and infrastructure development company with a national footprint, is seeking an experienced and dedicated Health and Safety Manager to join their virtual team. You will be responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing comprehensive health and safety management systems to ensure compliance with all relevant legislation and industry best practices. The ideal candidate is a passionate advocate for safety, with a proven ability to lead, train, and influence teams remotely. Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain robust health and safety management systems across all projects.
• Ensure compliance with South African health and safety legislation (e.g., OHS Act, Construction Regulations).
• Conduct risk assessments, hazard identification, and implement control measures.
• Develop and deliver comprehensive health and safety training programs to site personnel and management.
• Investigate incidents, accidents, and near misses, determining root causes and recommending corrective actions.
• Promote a strong safety culture throughout the organization, fostering employee engagement and accountability.
• Develop and monitor safety performance indicators (KPIs) and report on safety metrics.
• Conduct regular site safety audits and inspections, ensuring corrective actions are implemented.
• Liaise with regulatory bodies, clients, and other stakeholders on health and safety matters.
• Manage the health and safety budget and resources effectively.
• Stay current with legislative changes and industry best practices in occupational health and safety.
• Develop emergency preparedness and response plans.

Requirements

• National Diploma or Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, or a related field.
• SAMTRAC certification or equivalent is essential.
• Professional registration with a relevant body (e.g., SACPCMP Pr CPM/Pr CHSM) is highly advantageous.
• Minimum of 8 years of experience in health and safety management, preferably within the construction or mining industry.
• In-depth knowledge of South African health and safety legislation and regulations.
• Proven experience in developing and implementing OHS management systems (e.g., ISO 45001).
• Excellent leadership, communication, and influencing skills, particularly for remote engagement.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Proficiency in using digital platforms for training, reporting, and communication.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a remote setting.
• Experience in incident investigation and root cause analysis.
