Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a seasoned Lead Data Privacy Counsel to shape and oversee our global privacy program in a fully remote role. You will provide strategic legal guidance on data collection, processing, storage, and international transfers, ensuring compliance with POPIA, GDPR, and other frameworks.

You will conduct PIAs/DPIAs, develop privacy policies and training, manage breach responses, and collaborate with IT, Security, Marketing, and Product teams to embed privacy-by-design.

Qualifications

• Admitted Attorney or Advocate with 10+ years of data privacy experience.
• Deep knowledge of POPIA, GDPR and international privacy frameworks.
• Experience developing and implementing comprehensive privacy programs.
• Experience in PIAs/DPIAs; managing data breach responses.
• Strong analytical, strategic thinking and negotiation skills.
• Ability to lead across departments and operate remotely.
• CIPP certification is a strong asset.

Responsibilities

• Develop and manage global data privacy program in line with POPIA and GDPR.
• Advise on data collection, processing, storage, and transfers.
• Conduct Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs) and DPIAs.
• Draft and update privacy policies and training materials.
• Lead data breach response strategies and notification processes.
• Collaborate with IT, Security, Marketing, and Product teams on privacy-by-design.
• Monitor changes in privacy laws and advise on impact.
• Represent company with data protection authorities.
