Placements24 is seeking a Lead Legal Counsel specializing in Information Governance for a fully remote role. You will advise on data privacy, cybersecurity, IP, and governance across global operations.

The position requires a JD, SA admission, 8+ years in corporate/tech law, and proven expertise in drafting and negotiating complex tech contracts.

You will develop policies, manage incident response, and collaborate with IT, security, and business units to ensure GDPR/POPIA compliance.

Qualifications

• JD or equivalent law degree from a recognized institution.
• Admission to practice law in South Africa (or eligible).
• 8+ years' experience in information governance, privacy, and cybersecurity in a corporate setting.
• Deep knowledge of GDPR, CCPA, POPIA and other data protection laws.
• Proven ability to draft, review, and negotiate complex tech contracts.
• Strong analytical, communication, and strategic thinking for remote work.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert advice on information governance, data privacy, cybersecurity, and IP matters.
• Develop, review, and negotiate technology, data processing, and vendor contracts.
• Ensure compliance with global data protection laws across jurisdictions.
• Manage data breach response and notification processes.
• Develop information governance policies, procedures, and training.
• Advise on legal aspects of digital transformation and emerging tech.
• Perform legal risk assessments and mitigation strategies.
• Collaborate with legal, IT, security, and business units.
• Manage outside counsel and external resources.
• Stay abreast of evolving regulatory landscapes in tech.
