Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a visionary Chief Financial Officer to lead the finance function remotely from anywhere within South Africa. The role focuses on strategic financial planning, capital raising, and governance to drive growth for a fast-scaling fintech startup across Africa.

The successful candidate will manage FP&A, investor relations, risk management, and build a high-performing distributed finance team.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration.
• CA(SA), CMA, CPA or equivalent professional qualification is essential.
• 10–15 years of senior financial leadership, startup/scale-up fintech or tech experience.
• Demonstrated capital-raising success of $20M+ from VC and institutional investors.
• Strong knowledge of IFRS/GAAP and fintech regulations.
• Excellent strategic thinking, leadership and remote-working capabilities.
• Outstanding communication and negotiation skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute the company's comprehensive financial strategy aligned with aggressive growth.
• Lead all capital-raising activities including venture rounds and debt financing.
• Oversee FP&A, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting functions.
• Maintain relationships with investors, banks, and financial stakeholders.
• Implement robust internal controls, financial systems and governance structures.
• Drive profitability, optimize cash flow, and manage financial risk.
• Ensure compliance with financial regulations and global reporting standards.
• Build and mentor a distributed finance team.
• Provide strategic financial insights to CEO and Board of Directors.
• Oversee M&A activities and strategic financial partnerships.
