Placements24 is seeking a visionary Chief Financial Officer to lead the finance function remotely from anywhere within South Africa. The role focuses on strategic financial planning, capital raising, and governance to drive growth for a fast-scaling fintech startup across Africa.

The successful candidate will manage FP&A, investor relations, risk management, and build a high-performing distributed finance team.

Competenze

• Master's degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration.
• CA(SA), CMA, CPA or equivalent professional qualification is essential.
• 10–15 years of senior financial leadership, startup/scale-up fintech or tech experience.
• Demonstrated capital-raising success of $20M+ from VC and institutional investors.
• Strong knowledge of IFRS/GAAP and fintech regulations.
• Excellent strategic thinking, leadership and remote-working capabilities.
• Outstanding communication and negotiation skills.

About the Role

Our client is a rapidly scaling fintech startup with operations across Africa, looking for a visionary and highly strategic Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to lead their finance function remotely. This fully remote position offers the ultimate flexibility to work from anywhere within South Africa and shape the financial future of a disruptive company in the fintech space. The CFO will be responsible for all financial strategy, capital raising, financial planning and analysis, risk management, and ensuring robust governance and compliance. Key Responsibilities

• Develop and execute the company's comprehensive financial strategy, aligning with aggressive growth objectives.
• Lead all capital-raising activities, including venture capital funding rounds and debt financing.
• Oversee financial planning and analysis (FP&A), budgeting, forecasting, and reporting functions.
• Establish and maintain strong relationships with investors, banks, and other financial stakeholders.
• Implement and manage robust internal controls, financial systems, and governance structures.
• Drive profitability, optimize cash flow, and manage financial risks effectively.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant financial regulations and reporting standards globally.
• Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing, distributed finance team.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration.
• Professional qualification such as CA(SA), CMA, CPA, or equivalent is essential.
• Minimum of 10-15 years of senior financial leadership experience, with significant experience in startup/scale-up environments, ideally in fintech or technology sectors.
• Demonstrated success in raising significant capital ($20M+) from venture capital and institutional investors.
• Extensive knowledge of financial strategy, corporate finance, international accounting standards (IFRS/GAAP), and fintech regulations.
• Exceptional strategic thinking, leadership, and problem-solving capabilities.
• Proven ability to thrive and lead effectively in a fully remote, fast-paced, and agile environment.
• Outstanding communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
• Experience with modern financial technologies and cloud-based ERP systems is highly advantageous.
