Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a dedicated Remote Environmental Scientist to ensure compliance with environmental regulations across mining projects in South Africa. You will analyze data, develop mitigation strategies, and prepare reports for regulatory bodies, collaborating with site teams and consultants from a home-based setup in the Western Cape and beyond.

The role requires an MSc or PhD in Environmental Science, at least 7 years in environmental management within mining, and strong skills in

Qualifications

MSc or PhD in Environmental Science, Ecology, or a related field.
Minimum of 7 years of experience in environmental management, particularly within the mining sector.
In-depth knowledge of South African environmental laws and regulations.
Experience with environmental modeling and reporting software.
Strong analytical and report-writing skills.
Proven ability to manage projects and work effectively in a fully remote capacity.

Responsibilities

Conduct environmental impact assessments (EIAs) and audits for mining projects.
Develop and implement environmental management plans (EMPs) and monitoring programs.
Analyze environmental data (water quality, air emissions, biodiversity) and report findings.
Ensure compliance with national and international environmental legislation and permitting requirements.
Advise project teams on best practices for environmental protection and rehabilitation.
Liaise with government agencies, stakeholders, and community groups on environmental matters.
