Placements24 is seeking a Senior Environmental Scientist to lead compliance in mining projects with remote work flexibility. You will develop and implement environmental management systems, conduct EIAs, and oversee monitoring across sites.

Ideal candidates have a Master's degree and 7+ years in mining environmental management, with strong data analysis and regulatory knowledge for SA and international standards. Remote collaboration and mentoring junior staff are key aspects of the role.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Environmental Science or related field.
• 7+ years in environmental management, mining experience preferred.
• Knowledge of South African legislation (NEMA, MPRDA) and international standards.
• Experience conducting EIAs and developing EMPs.
• Strong data analysis, reporting, and remote collaboration skills.
• Experience with environmental management software is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and manage environmental management plans for mining projects.
• Conduct EIAs and ensure compliance with legislation and permits.
• Oversee environmental monitoring programs (water quality, air emissions, biodiversity).
• Provide expert advice on best practices, risk mitigation, and regulatory requirements.
• Liaise with regulatory authorities, stakeholders, and communities on environmental matters.
• Manage environmental audits and ensure corrective actions.
• Train and mentor junior staff on compliance and management systems.
