Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an experienced Environmental Compliance Officer to join a remote mining operations support role in the Benoni region and beyond. You will ensure activities comply with South Africa's environmental laws, regulations, and company policies, and you will monitor impact, develop mitigation strategies, and facilitate reporting.

The ideal candidate holds a Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science or Engineering, at least 5 years' mining compliance experience, and strong

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field.
• 5+ years of environmental management and compliance in mining.
• Knowledge of South African environmental legislation (NEMA, MPRDA) and permitting processes.
• Experience with EIAs and Environmental Management Programmes (EMPs).
• Strong analytical and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Monitor environmental performance across mining sites, ensuring compliance with permits and legislation.
• Develop and implement environmental management plans (waste, water, rehabilitation).
• Conduct regular environmental audits and inspections to identify risks.
• Prepare and submit environmental reports to regulatory authorities and management.
• Advise project teams on environmental best practices and regulatory requirements.
• Investigate incidents, recommend corrective actions, track implementation.
• Stay updated on evolving environmental legislation and industry practices.
