Placements24 is seeking an Environmental Scientist to join a remote team focused on environmental compliance across mining operations in South Africa. You will develop and manage environmental plans, monitor impacts, and liaise with regulatory bodies to maintain compliance at multiple sites including near Klerksdorp.

The role emphasizes independent work, strong communication, and delivering sustainable outcomes while supporting responsible mining practices from a remote location.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Management or related discipline.
• Minimum of 6 years experience in environmental management, preferably in mining or heavy industry.
• Strong knowledge of South African environmental legislation and permitting (NEMA, MPRDA).
• Experience in monitoring, impact assessment and reporting.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement and manage environmental impact assessments and management plans for mining projects.
• Monitor environmental parameters (air, water, soil, biodiversity) and ensure compliance with legislation.
• Prepare environmental reports, permit applications and regulatory submissions for government agencies.
• Conduct environmental audits and risk assessments to identify improvements and ensure best practices.
• Advise project teams on environmental best practices and sustainability initiatives.
