Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an Electrical Design Engineer for a remote-first role based in Port Elizabeth. You will design and deliver robust MV/LV distribution systems, substations, and reticulation networks for infrastructure projects across the region.

You will develop diagrams, schematics, and construction drawings using CAD tools, specify transformers, switchgear, cables, and protection devices, and perform power system studies. Collaboration is key in a remote environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience in electrical power distribution design.
• Proficiency in power system analysis software (ETAP, PSS SINCAL) is essential.
• Strong skills in electrical CAD software (AutoCAD Electrical).
• Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng.) registration is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Design and engineer medium and low voltage electrical distribution systems including substations and reticulation networks.
• Develop single-line diagrams, schematics, and detailed construction drawings using CAD software.
• Specify electrical equipment such as transformers, switchgear, cables, and protection devices.
• Conduct power system studies including load flow, short circuit, and arc flash analysis.
• Prepare technical specifications, tender documents, and cost estimates.
• Review contractor submittals and respond to technical queries during construction.
• Ensure designs comply with SANS, NRS, and other relevant electrical standards and regulations.
• Coordinate electrical design with other disciplines (civil, mechanical).
• Provide technical support during the construction and commissioning phases.
• Maintain accurate project documentation and design records.
