Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer with deep expertise in substation design and operation for a fully remote role to support critical infrastructure across South Africa, including the Klerksdorp region.

You will lead HV substation projects, develop protection schemes, and mentor junior engineers while working with a national team to ensure reliability and efficiency of power systems from your home office.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• 10+ years of progressive experience in substation engineering.
• Proven track record in managing complex electrical infrastructure projects.
• Expert knowledge of substation equipment, protection relays, and control systems.
• Proficiency in simulation software such as ETAP, PSCAD, or similar.
• Excellent remote collaboration and leadership qualities.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and engineering of high-voltage substations, including layouts, schematics, and equipment specifications.
• Develop and review protection and control schemes for substations, ensuring system stability and safety.
• Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources for substation engineering projects from conception to completion.
• Conduct site inspections (when required, with travel support) and provide technical guidance for construction and commissioning phases.
• Perform advanced power system studies, including load flow, short circuit, and transient stability analysis.
• Mentor and guide junior engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement.
