Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Electrical Distribution Engineer to design, analyze and optimize electrical distribution networks across South Africa. This fully remote role supports reliable power delivery for residential, commercial, and industrial customers from anywhere in the country.

You will model networks with CYME, SynerGee and ETAP, perform load flow and fault studies, and specify transformers, switchgear and cables.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with a power systems focus.
• 7+ years in distribution design/analysis.
• Proficiency in CYME, SynerGee, ETAP.
• Strong protection principles knowledge.
• Knowledge of load forecasting techniques.
• Familiarity with utility standards and regulatory frameworks.
• Analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication for remote collaboration.
• Ability to manage multiple projects independently.
• Registration as Pr.Eng or Pr.Tech.Eng is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Design and engineer electrical distribution systems including substations, feeders, and protection schemes.
• Perform load flow, fault analysis, and voltage stability studies for the distribution network.
• Develop and update distribution system models using specialized software (CYME, SynerGee, ETAP).
• Specify distribution equipment such as transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, and cables.
• Ensure compliance with codes and utility standards (SANS 1009, IEC, IEEE).
• Collaborate with grid planning, operations, and construction teams.
• Prepare technical reports, feasibility studies, and cost estimates.
• Provide technical support to junior engineers and field crews.
• Investigate power quality issues and mitigation strategies.
• Stay informed about new technologies and best practices in electrical distribution engineering.
