Placements24 is seeking a highly skilled Remote Legal Specialist focused on Data Privacy and Compliance. The role aims to ensure POPIA, GDPR compliance across jurisdictions, working remotely from anywhere in South Africa.

You will develop privacy policies, conduct DPIAs, advise cross-department teams, and manage data breach responses. The ideal candidate has 7+ years of privacy-focused legal experience, Admitted Attorney/Advocate status, and strong communication skills to guide stakeholders.

Qualifikationen

• LLB degree or equivalent legal qualification.
• Admitted as an Attorney or Advocate.
• 7+ years of legal experience focused on data privacy and compliance.
• In-depth knowledge of POPIA, GDPR, and other frameworks.
• Proven experience in DPIAs and data breach management.
• Familiarity with IT security principles related to data protection.
• Certifications such as CIPP/E, CIPP/US, or CIPM are advantageous.

Aufgaben

• Develop and maintain data privacy policies aligned with POPIA and GDPR.
• Conduct Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) for new projects and technologies.
• Advise business teams on data processing, consent management, and data subject rights.
• Coordinate responses to data breaches, including notifications to authorities and individuals.
• Review DPAs and third-party vendor contracts involving personal data.
• Conduct internal audits and privacy training sessions.
• Stay updated on evolving data protection laws and guidance.
• Liaise with data protection authorities and represent the company on privacy inquiries.
• Collaborate with IT and security teams to ensure appropriate data protection measures.
• Provide governance on cross-border data transfers and international privacy compliance.
