Placements24 is seeking a Remote Legal Counsel specializing in data privacy to join its global legal team. The ideal candidate acts as a subject-matter expert on data protection, advises on privacy by design, manages DPIAs, and handles data breach responses.

The role is fully remote for candidates across South Africa with a strong focus on POPIA and GDPR compliance. The successful attorney will draft privacy policies, negotiate data processing agreements, and lead cross-border privacy

Qualifications

• Admitted attorney with strong data privacy expertise.
• Familiarity with POPIA, GDPR and international privacy regimes.
• Experience drafting and implementing privacy policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert legal advice on data privacy, data protection, and cybersecurity matters globally.
• Develop, review, and update privacy policies, notices, and procedures.
• Conduct DPIAs and advise on privacy by design principles.
• Manage data breach incidents, including investigation, notification, and remediation.
• Advise on cross-border data transfers and international privacy compliance.
• Review and advise on data processing agreements and privacy clauses in contracts.
• Stay updated on evolving privacy laws and regulatory guidance.
• Train internal teams on data privacy obligations.
