Job summary

MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company SA in Durban seeks an experienced logistics manager to lead a regional team and oversee fleet maintenance and HR matters. The role requires strong leadership, communication, and operational oversight to ensure service continuity.

You will coordinate with multiple departments and clients, handle claims and safety compliance, and support day-to-day logistics in a high-demand environment. Weekend and holiday coverage may be needed.

Duties & Responsibilities

People Management

• Lead and manage a team of mechanics, technicians, operational and support staff in the Cartage office;
• To manage and oversee all aspects, MSC Logistics staff, equipment and administration in the Durban region;
• To manage and oversee all aspects of HR related matters at MSC Logistics Durban;
• Overall management of attendance register and time keeping;

Health & Safety & Risk Management

• To manage and oversee all aspects of OHS related matters at MSC Logistics Durban
• To manage and oversee all aspects of Risk related matters at MSC Logistics Durban;

Operations & Stakeholder management

• Ensure efficient and timely maintenance and repair of company vehicles
• To manage and oversee all aspects of Claims related matters at MSC Logistics Durban;
• Customer calls;
• Liaising with various departments within the organisation
• Liaising with clients and assisting with any concerns raised;
• Investigates and resolves all claims, complaints, queries;
• To liaise with Port regarding operational issues/concerns
• To assist with day-to-day management of the Long-Distance Road haul department where required.
• Ensure the necessary updates are sent to customers and the management team timeously

Ad Hoc

• Acts on any lawful and reasonable instruction given to you by the Directors.

Desired Experience & Qualification

Minimum Academic and Professional Qualifications and Experience Required for this position

• A minimum of 5 years' experience in logistics and management with reliable transport.
• A postgraduate qualification in Transport, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
• Demonstrated success in leading, motivating, and managing teams to achieve operational objectives and performance targets.
• Strong knowledge of fleet maintenance principles, repair processes, and industry best practices.
• Sound understanding of transport operations, fleet control, operational management, and warehousing functions.
• Proven experience in container transportation operations.
• Experience in car carrier transportation will be considered an advantage.
• Intermediate-level computer literacy, including proficiency in standard business applications.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Must be willing and available to work weekends and public holidays when required to address operational issues and ensure business continuity.
