About the Role

Our client, a prominent force in the national logistics landscape, is seeking a dynamic and results-oriented Fleet and Transport Manager to spearhead their transportation operations based in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal . This role is central to ensuring the efficient, safe, and cost-effective movement of goods throughout the region. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a diverse fleet, optimizing routes, overseeing driver performance, and ensuring full compliance with all transportation regulations. This is a hands-on, on-site position requiring a strong presence in our client's Durban hub, working closely with the logistics team to maintain the highest levels of service delivery. We are looking for a leader with exceptional organizational skills and a deep understanding of the complexities of modern transportation management.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee the daily operations of the company's fleet, including scheduling, dispatching, and route planning.
• Manage all aspects of fleet maintenance, ensuring vehicles are safe, compliant, and well-maintained to minimize downtime.
• Develop and implement strategies to optimize transportation costs, including fuel efficiency and route planning.
• Supervise and provide guidance to a team of drivers and dispatch personnel in Durban .
• Ensure strict adherence to all national and international transportation regulations, including driver hours and safety standards.
• Monitor driver performance, conduct regular reviews, and implement training programs as needed.
• Manage relationships with external transport providers and service vendors.
• Analyze transportation data to identify trends, inefficiencies, and opportunities for improvement.
• Implement and manage transport management systems (TMS) to enhance operational visibility and control.
• Respond to and resolve transportation-related issues and emergencies promptly and effectively.

Requirements

• A minimum of 5 years of experience in fleet and transport management, preferably within a busy logistics environment.
• Proven experience in managing large vehicle fleets and optimizing transportation logistics.
• Strong understanding of vehicle maintenance, repair, and regulatory compliance.
• Excellent leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and develop staff.
• Proficiency in using transport management systems (TMS) and other relevant software.
• Knowledge of South African road transport laws and regulations is essential.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make sound decisions under pressure.
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
• Ability to work effectively on-site in Durban and manage operations with a high degree of autonomy.
• A relevant qualification in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field is advantageous.
