Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a dedicated Process Safety Engineer in Bloemfontein to bolster safety initiatives within oil and gas facilities. You will identify, assess, and mitigate process hazards, implement robust PSM systems, and lead risk assessments.

You will oversee the Mechanical Integrity program, investigate incidents, and train staff to ensure compliance with OSHA PSM and industry standards, fostering a proactive safety culture.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in process safety engineering, preferably in oil and gas.
• In-depth knowledge of PSM principles and risk assessment methodologies.
• Experience with safety instrumented systems (SIS) and relief system design is a plus.
• Excellent analytical, communication, and report-writing skills.

Responsibilities

• Conduct Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs) such as HAZOP, LOPA, and What-If studies.
• Develop and implement Process Safety Management (PSM) elements and procedures.
• Oversee the Mechanical Integrity (MI) program for critical process equipment.
• Investigate process safety incidents and near misses, recommending corrective actions.
• Ensure compliance with relevant safety regulations and industry best practices (e.g., OSHA PSM).
• Provide training and guidance on process safety principles to operations and engineering staff.
