Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a dedicated Process Safety Engineer to enhance safety culture and operational integrity at a chemical manufacturing facility in Rustenburg. You will identify, evaluate, and mitigate process hazards to prevent accidents and ensure regulatory compliance for the plant and surrounding community.

Key duties include leading PHAs (HAZOP, What-If, FMEA), implementing PSM programs, investigating incidents, designing SIS, training personnel, and staying current with safety

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or closely related field.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience specifically in process safety engineering within the chemical or petrochemical industry.
• Proven expertise in PHAs and implementing PSM elements.
• Strong knowledge of applicable safety standards and regulations (e.g., OSHA PSM, EPA RMP).
• Experience with risk assessment techniques and consequence modeling software is highly desirable.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to influence safety decisions.

Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs), including HAZOP, What-If, and FMEA studies, for new and existing chemical processes.
• Develop and implement robust Process Safety Management (PSM) programs and procedures in accordance with industry best practices and regulatory requirements.
• Investigate incidents and near misses, determining root causes and recommending corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
• Design and oversee the implementation of safety instrumented systems (SIS) and other layers of protection.
• Provide training and guidance to plant personnel on process safety principles, procedures, and emergency response.
• Stay abreast of evolving safety regulations and technologies, ensuring the company remains compliant and at the forefront of safety practices.
