Qualifications

• Master's or Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering.

Responsibilities

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly creative and technically proficient Process Design Engineer to join their fully remote team, focusing on specialty chemicals. This role is integral to the conceptualization and detailed design of innovative chemical processes for niche applications. You will leverage your expertise in chemical engineering principles to develop efficient, safe, and sustainable designs, from initial concept through to detailed engineering packages. Key Responsibilities

• Develop process flow diagrams (PFDs) and piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs) for new and modified chemical processes.
• Perform process simulations and calculations to optimize unit operations and overall process design.
• Size and specify process equipment, including reactors, heat exchangers, pumps, and separation units.
• Conduct process hazard analyses (PHAs) and ensure designs meet safety and environmental standards.
• Collaborate with R&D teams to ensure smooth scale-up from laboratory to pilot and commercial scale.
• Prepare process design packages, including operating manuals and safety data sheets.
• Provide technical support during the construction, commissioning, and startup phases of projects.
• Stay current with industry trends, new technologies, and best practices in chemical process design.
• Interface with clients and project stakeholders to define requirements and communicate design progress.

Requirements

• Master's or Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience in chemical process design, with a focus on specialty chemicals or fine chemicals.
• Expertise in process simulation software (e.g., Aspen Plus, ChemCAD) and AutoCAD.
• Strong understanding of reaction engineering, thermodynamics, and separation technologies.
• Experience with HAZOP studies and other process safety methodologies.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and technical writing skills.
• Proven ability to work effectively independently and collaboratively in a fully remote setting.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills for remote collaboration.
• Experience with process control and instrumentation design is a plus.
