Placements24 is seeking a vigilant Power Plant Operator to manage day-to-day operations in Bloemfontein. You will monitor control systems, respond to operational changes, and perform routine checks to ensure smooth plant functioning.

The role requires 3+ years of experience, a strong understanding of power plant systems, and the ability to work 12-hour rotating shifts including nights and weekends.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 education is required; a technical qualification is preferred.
• At least 3 years of experience as a Power Plant Operator or in a similar role.
• Strong understanding of power plant systems, thermodynamics and electrical principles.
• Proficiency in operating control room systems (SCADA, DCS).
• Ability to work 12-hour rotating shifts, including nights and weekends.
• Excellent observational skills and commitment to safety.

Responsibilities

• Operate and monitor power generation equipment from a central control room.
• Respond to alarms and deviations, implementing corrective actions.

About the Role

Our client is seeking a vigilant and technically proficient Power Plant Operator to manage the day-to-day operations of their facility in Bloemfontein . This role is critical for ensuring the safe, efficient, and reliable generation of electricity, maintaining optimal performance of all plant equipment. You will be responsible for monitoring control systems, responding to operational changes, and performing routine checks to guarantee smooth plant functioning. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, possesses strong mechanical and electrical aptitude, and thrives in a high-stakes operational environment, contributing to a company dedicated to stable energy provision.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate and monitor power generation equipment (boilers, turbines, generators) from a central control room.
• Respond to alarms and operational deviations, taking appropriate corrective actions to maintain safety and efficiency.
• Perform routine equipment checks, log operational data, and report any anomalies or required maintenance.
• Ensure adherence to all safety procedures, environmental regulations, and plant operating protocols.
• Coordinate with maintenance teams for scheduled and unscheduled equipment servicing.
• Participate in emergency response drills and procedures to ensure preparedness.

Requirements

• Minimum of a Grade 12 education; a relevant technical qualification (e.g., National Certificate in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering) is preferred.
• At least 3 years of experience as a Power Plant Operator or in a similar industrial operations role.
• Strong understanding of power plant systems, thermodynamics, and electrical principles.
