Job summary

Innovazi Consulting in Johannesburg seeks an experienced Import Freight Forwarder to coordinate LCL shipments from booking to arrival. You will track vessels, verify documents, liaise with customs, and manage costs and delivery with transporters.

Applicants should have Matric, 3+ years in import sea freight (LCL preferred), knowledge of Incoterms, and proficiency in MS Office. Own transport and a valid driver's licence are required.

Qualifications

• Matric is required.
• Freight forwarding or customs qualification is advantageous.
• Minimum 3 years experience in import sea freight, ideally with LCL.
• Strong knowledge of Incoterms, shipping documents, and import processes in SA ports.
• Working knowledge of freight systems (e.g., Shipshape) is beneficial.
• Excellent communication with clients, agents, and suppliers.
• Highly organised and able to manage multiple shipments under pressure.
• Proficient in MS Office, especially Excel and Outlook.
• Own transport and valid driver’s licence.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate import LCL shipments with overseas agents and consolidators from booking to arrival.
• Track vessels, sailings, and ETAs, keeping clients updated.
• Verify house and master bills of lading, invoices, packing lists, and origin certificates for accuracy.
• Liaise with customs clearing to ensure timely submissions and cargo release.
• Arrange deconsolidation, depot/CFS collection, and final delivery with transporters.
• Manage storage, demurrage, and other costs to avoid unnecessary charges.
• Prepare job costings and quotes with accurate charges.
• Resolve operational issues such as delays, damaged cargo, and documentation errors.
• Maintain accurate shipment records on the freight system.

• Track vessels, sailings, and ETAs, keeping clients proactively updated
• Verify shipping documents (house and master bills of lading, invoices, packing lists, certificates of origin) for accuracy
• Liaise with the customs clearing team to ensure timely submission of entries and cargo release
• Arrange deconsolidation, depot/CFS collection, and final delivery with transporters
• Manage storage, demurrage, and other costs to avoid unnecessary charges
• Prepare job costings and quotes, ensuring all charges are invoiced correctly
• Resolve operational issues such as delays, short or damaged cargo, and documentation errors
• Maintain accurate shipment records on the freight system
