Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Mine Planning Engineer for our Kimberley team to develop and execute short-term and long-term open pit plans that optimize resource recovery while ensuring safety and regulatory compliance.

You will collaborate with geology, surveying, and production to translate resource models into schedules, using Deswik, Vulcan, or MineSight to drive efficient operations in the Northern Cape region.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or related discipline.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience in open pit mine planning and operations.
• Proficiency with mine planning software such as Deswik, Vulcan, or MineSight.
• Solid understanding of open pit mining methods, equipment, and operational constraints.
• Experience with geotechnical considerations and environmental regulations in mining.
• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain short-term (daily/weekly) and long-term (annual/life-of-mine) open pit mine plans.
• Optimize mine sequencing, pit limits, and production schedules to maximize resource recovery and economic value.
• Create haul road designs, blast patterns, and equipment utilization plans.
• Collaborate with geotechnical engineers to ensure slope stability and mine safety.
• Monitor mine performance against plans and implement necessary adjustments.
• Prepare mine planning reports and visualizations for management review.
