Job summary

DP World in Gauteng seeks an experienced Sea Import Controller to coordinate international cargo from origin to final delivery. You will liaise with overseas agents, freight forwarders and customs to ensure accurate documentation and on-time release.

Key duties include tracking shipments, verifying bills of lading and certificates, managing costs, and providing proactive updates to clients while maintaining meticulous shipment records in the freight system.

Qualifications

• Matric is required.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate import LCL shipments with overseas agents and consolidators, from booking to arrival.

Requirements

• Matric
• Freight forwarding or customs qualification advantageous
• Minimum 3 years experience in import sea freight, ideally with LCL
• Strong knowledge of Incoterms, shipping documents, and import processes in South African ports
• Working knowledge of freight systems (e.g., Shipshape) advantageous
• Excellent communication skills with clients, agents, and suppliers
• Highly organised, accurate, and able to manage multiple shipments under pressure
• Proficient in MS Office, especially Excel and Outlook
• Own transport and valid drivers licence

• Coordinate international import and export cargo from origin through to final delivery.
• Liaise with third-party service providers, including freight forwarders, clearing agents, shipping lines and transport providers.
• Coordinate with overseas suppliers, customers and internal stakeholders to ensure shipments move according to schedule.
• Verify shipping documentation and resolve any documentation discrepancies.
• Coordinate customs clearance and delivery requirements.
• Monitor shipment progress and provide regular status updates to customers and stakeholders.
• Verify freight charges, supplier invoices and supporting documentation.
• Maintain accurate shipment tracking reports and operational records.
• Identify and resolve shipment delays and operational challenges.

• Grade 12 (Matric).
• A qualification in Logistics, Supply Chain, International Trade or a related field will be advantageous.
• 35 years' experience in a similar Import & Export Operations role.
• Proven experience coordinating international import and export cargo.
• Experience working with freight forwarders, clearing agents, shipping lines and transport providers.
• Good understanding of import and export documentation, customs clearance processes and Incoterms.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office.
• Excellent organisational, communication and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage multiple shipments simultaneously while meeting strict deadlines.

Important Requirement

Applicants must have previous experience in an Import & Export Operations role involving the coordination of international cargo.
