Job summary

City Logistics, Bloemfontein, is seeking a seasoned Night Shift Manager to oversee and manage daily branch operations. This role is critical in ensuring that all branch activities run efficiently and effectively.

The ideal candidate will have extensive retail distribution experience and be responsible for leading and supervising operational staff, while providing strong, hands-on support to the Branch Manager to drive performance and maintain high operational standards.

Qualifications

• Grade 12/Matric with relevant degree preferred.
• Degree in logistics, supply chain or a related field is preferred.
• 3–5 years of operations management or similar experience.
• Valid driver’s license and own transport are essential.
• Proven ability to manage and lead a team effectively.
• Strong written and verbal communication; data reporting skills.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily branch operations during night shift to ensure efficiency.
• Lead and supervise operational staff, supporting the Branch Manager.
• Coordinate dispatch, linehaul monitoring, and on-schedule deliveries.
• Analyze floor reports, manage stock aging, and enforce FIFO.
• Plan staffing based on demand and maintain housekeeping standards.
• Communicate delays and issues to stores; resolve discrepancies promptly.
• Ensure health & safety compliance and incident documentation.
• Drive performance, develop staff, and maintain asset control.

The ideal candidate will have extensive retail distribution experience and be responsible for leading and supervising operational staff, while providing strong, hands‑on support to the Branch Manager to drive performance and maintain high operational standards.

YOUR CORE FOCUS AREAS:

• Ensure all vehicles are fully utilized and dispatched on schedule.
• Monitor linehaul arrivals, report delays, and resolve issues promptly.
• Analyze daily floor reports, manage stock aging, and enforce FIFO.
• Plan daily staffing based on volume demands.
• Conduct floor inspections with supervisors to maintain housekeeping and efficiency.
• Handle client delivery inquiries and booking schedules.
• Prepare and communicate loading plans clearly to the team.
• Manage smooth shift handovers between day and night teams.
• Track delivery volumes, collections, and ETAs for transfers.
• Communicate delivery delays with stores and investigate discrepancies.
• Document staff incident statements and enforce health & safety compliance.
• Ensure supervisors meet delivery and collection deadlines.
• Maintain service quality and manage company assets with the Transport Manager.
• Investigate branch claims and maintain discipline.
• Communicate new client requirements and report operational issues.
• Coordinate stock takes and ensure timely resolution of PODs.
• Drive team performance to meet targets and support staff development.
• Oversee fleet maintenance and report vehicle issues promptly.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

• Grade 12/Matric.
• Degree in logistics, supply chain management, or a related field preferred.
• Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in operations management or similar role.
• Valid Driver’s license.
• Own Transport essential.
• Proven ability to manage and lead a team effectively.
• Strong understanding of operational procedures.
• Proficient in using warehouse management systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to analyze data and generate reports.
• Familiarity with company policies, safety protocols, and industry regulations.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to coordinate with different departments and branches effectively.
• Capability to conduct regular inspections and perform safety audits.
• Experience in training and developing team members.
• Skilled in streamlining processes to enhance efficiency and reduce costs.
