Job summary

City Logistics in Cape Town seeks a proactive Night Shift Operations Supervisor to oversee daily logistics, manage teams, and optimise workflows in our urban hub.

You will ensure on-time deliveries, monitor vehicle allocations, and maintain safety and quality standards while driving continuous improvement and staff development.

The role requires coordinating with drivers, handling shift handovers, and reporting performance metrics to management with a focus on OTIF and cost efficiency.

Qualifications

• Matric is required.
• Logistics degree or diploma is advantageous.
• 2-3 years in a supervisory role.
• Experience with staff management and operations.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office.
• Experience with City Logistics LMS & OnRoute (ORV) systems is advantageous.
• Ability to engage with drivers and crew.
• Understanding City Logistics procedures and policies.

• Oversee timely dispatch of vehicles in line with schedules.
• Monitor linehaul arrivals and report delays to management.
• Pull, analyze, and resolve floor reports to prevent aging stock.
• Lead regular floor walks to ensure smooth operations and FIFO stock movement.
• Verify daily staff headcounts and manage day/night shift handovers.
• Handle delivery inquiries and update clients on delivery status.
• Plan vehicle loading schedules with Operations Manager and teams.
• Track delivery volumes, collections and inbound transfer ETAs.
• Maintain safety, housekeeping and adherence to standards on-site.

ARE YOU OUR NEXT OPERATIONS SUPERVISOR?We are seeking a proactive and experienced Operations Supervisor to oversee daily logistics operations within our Cape Town branch. Based in a fast-paced city logistics hub, you will be responsible for managing teams, optimizing workflows, and ensuring timely, cost-effective, and high-quality service across last-mile delivery operations.

YOUR CORE FOCUS AREAS

• Ensure daily delivery allocations are communicated to the Control Room for effective vehicle tracking (local and outlying deliveries).
• Oversee timely dispatch of all vehicles in line with schedules.
• Monitor linehaul arrival times and report any delays to management and linehaul control.
• Pull, analyze, and resolve floor reports daily to prevent aging stock.
• Conduct regular floor walks to ensure smooth operations and stock movement according to FIFO principles.
• Verify daily staff headcounts and ensure proper handovers between day and night shifts.
• Handle delivery inquiries and maintain client communication regarding delivery updates.
• Track and record booking dates for Supply Chain and Express clients.
• Plan vehicle loading schedules and coordinate with the Operations Manager and loading teams.
• Monitor delivery volumes, collections, and inbound transfer (IBT) ETAs.
• Communicate with stores regarding delivery delays and discrepancies.
• Investigate and report shortages, damages, and incidents (including taking staff statements).
• Ensure adherence to Health and Safety standards.
• Uphold high standards of service delivery (monitoring OTIF – On Time In Full performance).
• Manage company assets, ensuring security and proper use (walls & wheels).
• Maintain discipline, cleanliness, and general housekeeping on-site.
• Lead daily meetings with reporting staff and keep them informed of updates and client requirements.
• Support inventory control by managing and adhering to stock take schedules.
• Report any operational or staff issues to management promptly.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• Matric.
• Logistics degree or diploma advantageous
• At least 2 -3 years in a supervisory role.
• Experience in staff management and operations.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office.
• Experience with City Logistics LMS & OnRoute (ORV) systems (advantageous)
• Ability to engage with drivers and crew.
• Understanding and awareness of City Logistics operational procedures, policies, and processes.
