About the Role

Our client, a leading insurance provider, is looking for a diligent and technically proficient Motor Claims Assessor to join their active claims team in East London, Eastern Cape . This role is responsible for evaluating the extent of damage to vehicles involved in insurance claims, determining repair costs, and authorizing necessary work to ensure fair and efficient claims settlement. The successful candidate will possess a keen eye for detail, a strong understanding of automotive mechanics and repair processes, and the ability to communicate effectively with policyholders, repairers, and other stakeholders. This is a hands-on role critical to the claims handling process.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct thorough physical inspections of damaged vehicles to assess the extent of damage.
• Determine the cause of accidents and ascertain liability where applicable.
• Estimate repair costs accurately using industry-standard estimating software and knowledge of parts pricing.
• Authorize necessary repairs and ensure work is completed according to insurer standards and policy coverage.
• Document all assessment findings clearly and concisely in the claims system.
• Liaise with policyholders, repairers, and legal representatives throughout the assessment process.
• Identify potential fraud indicators and escalated suspicious claims.
• Negotiate repair costs with workshops when necessary.
• Ensure efficient turnaround times for vehicle assessments and approvals.

Requirements

• A relevant qualification in Automotive Mechanical Engineering, Panel Beating, or a related technical field.
• A minimum of 3 years of experience as a Motor Claims Assessor or in a related role within the automotive repair or insurance industry.
• Proficiency in using motor vehicle estimating software (e.g., Audatex, ESi) and general computer applications.
• Strong knowledge of vehicle mechanics, repair procedures, and parts.
• Excellent observational and analytical skills.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain technical information clearly.
• Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to various locations for assessments.
• Attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
