Job summary
Placements24 is seeking a skilled Geotechnical Engineer in Welkom to support mining projects in the Free State. You will assess ground stability, design safe excavation methods, and mitigate geological risks across underground and surface operations.
The role requires a Master’s in Geotechnical/Mining engineering and at least 6 years of relevant mining experience, with proficiency in Rocscience, FLAC, and PLAXIS for analysis and reporting.
Qualifications
- Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Mining or related field
- At least 6 years of geotechnical experience in mining
- Strong analytical and reporting skills
Responsibilities
- Conduct detailed geotechnical investigations and site characterizations for mining projects.
- Analyze soil and rock mass properties to assess stability of excavations, slopes, and underground structures.
- Develop and recommend ground support systems and stabilization techniques.
- Prepare geotechnical reports including risk assessments and design recommendations.
- Collaborate with mine planners and geologists to integrate geotechnical considerations into mine design.
- Monitor ground conditions during excavation and advise on safety and stability adjustments.
