Job summary

Placements24 seeks a qualified Geotechnical Engineer to contribute to mining operations in Welkom. The role blends on-site investigations with remote analysis, focusing on foundation stability for mining infrastructure, tailings dams, and waste rock facilities.

You will design geotechnical solutions, review reports, and provide expert advice to ensure the long-term safety and integrity of critical mine assets, with a strong foundation in soil and rock mechanics. Hybrid work options are available.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum of 6 years of relevant geotechnical experience with mining exposure.
• Proficiency in geotechnical software such as GeoStudio or Plaxis.
• Solid understanding of soil mechanics, rock mechanics, and groundwater hydrology.
• Experience with field investigations and lab testing interpretation.
• Strong report writing and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Conduct site investigations, including drilling, sampling, and in-situ testing of soil and rock masses.
• Perform detailed geotechnical analyses, including slope stability, seepage, and settlement analysis for mining structures.
• Design foundations, retaining walls, and ground improvement schemes tailored to mining site conditions.
• Develop and review geotechnical investigation reports and design documents to industry standards.
• Provide technical support to construction and operations teams, remotely and on-site.
• Monitor performance of geotechnical structures and recommend remedial actions.
