Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer for projects in Nelspruit and surrounding Mpumalanga. The role focuses on ensuring stability of mine infrastructure, tailings dams, and open-pit slopes, with a blend of site visits and office work in a hybrid setup.

You will lead detailed geotechnical investigations, perform advanced analyses with PLAXIS/GeoStudio, and provide recommendations for safe mining operations. Strong communication and project management are essential.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering or related field.
• Over 10 years of geotechnical experience with mining focus.
• Pr Eng registration with ECSA preferred.
• Expertise in PLAXIS and GeoStudio for numerical modeling.
• Strong understanding of mine geology, tailings management, and rock mechanics.
• Excellent report writing, communication, and project management skills.

Responsibilities

• Conduct geotechnical investigations for mine sites, including slope stability analysis for open pits and tailings facilities.
• Design foundations, earthworks, and retaining structures for mining infrastructure.
• Perform risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies for geological hazards.
• Oversee field testing, laboratory analysis, and data interpretation related to soil and rock mechanics.
• Provide expert advice on ground conditions, dewatering, and excavation support.
• Collaborate with mining engineers, geologists, and environmental consultants on project planning and execution.
