Placements24 is seeking an experienced Mine Shift Boss to oversee underground operations near Tembisa. You will supervise mining crews, enforce safety regulations and ensure adherence to production plans in a demanding Gauteng environment.

The role requires a Mine Overseer's Certificate, at least 5 years in underground mining with 2+ years in supervision, and strong leadership and communication skills to drive safety and performance on site.

About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced and safety-conscious Mine Shift Boss to oversee daily operations at their underground mine located near Tembisa . You will be responsible for the direct supervision of mining crews, ensuring all activities are conducted safely, efficiently, and in compliance with regulatory standards. This role requires strong leadership skills and a deep understanding of underground mining techniques and safety protocols. The Shift Boss plays a critical role in maintaining production targets while prioritizing the well-being of all personnel on site, contributing to a productive and secure mining environment in the heart of Gauteng .

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise and direct underground mining operations during assigned shifts, ensuring adherence to production schedules.
• Implement and enforce all health, safety, and environmental regulations, conducting regular safety inspections and toolbox talks.
• Manage personnel, including scheduling, performance monitoring, and disciplinary actions as needed.
• Oversee the operation and maintenance of mining equipment, reporting any issues promptly.
• Ensure accurate record-keeping of shift activities, production volumes, and safety incidents.
• Coordinate with other departments, such as maintenance and geology, to ensure seamless operations.

Requirements

• Mine Overseer's Certificate of Competency (or equivalent qualification).
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in underground mining operations, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
• Demonstrated knowledge of various underground mining methods (e.g., narrow reef, open stoping).
• Strong understanding of mine safety legislation and best practices.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
