About the Role

Our client, a prominent international Mining group, is seeking a seasoned and results-driven Mine Operations Manager to lead their surface mining operations near Upington, Northern Cape . This senior leadership role is responsible for the overall management of all aspects of surface mining, including production, safety, environmental compliance, and cost control. The ideal candidate will possess a strong track record of success in managing large-scale open-pit operations and a commitment to operational excellence and sustainable mining practices. This is a significant opportunity to lead a major operation in a key mining region.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee and manage all daily surface mining operations, ensuring production targets are met safely and efficiently.
• Develop and implement strategic operational plans aligned with company objectives and market demands.
• Ensure strict adherence to health, safety, and environmental regulations and standards.
• Manage departmental budgets, controlling operational costs and optimizing resource allocation.
• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of mining professionals, supervisors, and operational staff.
• Oversee the effective utilization and maintenance of mining equipment and infrastructure.
• Foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within the operations department.
• Collaborate with other departments, including engineering, geology, and maintenance, to ensure integrated operations.
• Report on operational performance, key metrics, and financial outcomes to senior management.
• Represent the company in interactions with stakeholders, regulatory bodies, and the local community.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or a related technical field.
• A Master's degree or MBA is advantageous.
• A minimum of 10 years of progressive management experience in open-pit mining operations, with at least 5 years in a senior operational leadership role.
• Demonstrated success in managing large-scale surface mining operations and achieving production and cost targets.
• In-depth knowledge of mining methods, equipment, and technologies relevant to open-pit operations.
• Strong understanding of mine safety management systems and environmental regulations.
• Exceptional leadership, team-building, and communication skills.
• Proven ability to develop and execute strategic plans.
• Strong financial acumen and experience in budget management.
• Proficiency in mine planning software and operational management systems.
• Willingness to reside or work near the operation in Upington, Northern Cape .
