About the Role

Our client, a significant player in the Mining industry, is looking for a proactive and experienced Mine Maintenance Supervisor to oversee the maintenance and repair of heavy earthmoving equipment at their operations in Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal . This role is critical for ensuring maximum equipment availability and operational efficiency. The Supervisor will lead a team of skilled technicians, manage maintenance schedules, troubleshoot complex mechanical issues, and ensure adherence to stringent safety and quality standards. This is an excellent opportunity for a seasoned maintenance professional to make a substantial impact within a vital industrial setting.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise and manage a team of mechanics and technicians responsible for the maintenance of heavy mining equipment (e.g., excavators, haul trucks, dozers).
• Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.
• Diagnose and resolve complex mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical faults in heavy machinery.
• Ensure all maintenance activities are performed safely and in compliance with company policies and industry regulations.
• Manage spare parts inventory and procurement processes for maintenance operations.
• Conduct performance reviews and provide training and development opportunities for the maintenance team.
• Maintain detailed maintenance records and generate reports on equipment status, repair costs, and workshop productivity.
• Coordinate with production departments to schedule maintenance activities with minimal disruption to operations.
• Promote a strong safety culture within the maintenance workshop and on the mine site.

Requirements

• Trade Qualification in Heavy Equipment Mechanics or a related mechanical engineering discipline.
• Minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience in a heavy equipment maintenance environment, preferably within the Mining or construction sectors.
• In-depth knowledge of heavy mining machinery maintenance, including hydraulics, powertrains, and electrical systems.
• Proven ability to lead and motivate a technical team.
• Strong understanding of maintenance planning, scheduling, and inventory management.
• Excellent diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
• Familiarity with relevant safety standards and procedures in a mining environment.
• Proficiency in using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) is an advantage.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Must be willing to work shifts and be on-call as required.
