Placements24 is seeking a Mechanical Engineer for an on-site role in Rustenburg to design, develop, and optimize heavy mining equipment. You will work on prototypes, testing, and iterative improvements to ensure reliability in harsh mining environments.

The role requires hands-on involvement with CAD, structural analysis, and collaboration with manufacturing, with occasional travel to client sites. A passion for heavy machinery and practical problem-solving is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 4+ years of mechanical design experience in heavy machinery or similar industries.
• Proficient with CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, CATIA) and basic FEA tools.
• Strong understanding of statics, dynamics, materials science and hydraulics.
• Experience with design for extreme environments and travel willingness.

Responsibilities

• Design mechanical components and systems for large-scale mining equipment.
• Perform structural analysis, fatigue calculations, and material selection.
• Collaborate with manufacturing to ensure production-readiness and cost-effectiveness.
• Conduct field testing and performance evaluations for new and existing equipment.
• Troubleshoot failures and propose design improvements.
• Create engineering drawings, schematics, and specs using CAD.
