Job description

We are looking for a highly experienced Mechanical Engineer (Pr Eng / Pr Tech) to support critical projects within the gas, natural gas, energy, and petrochemical industries.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and review the mechanical design of systems and components in line with project requirements, international codes, and industry standards.
  • Prepare, review, and approve technical specifications, datasheets, drawings, and calculations.
  • Conduct design feasibility studies, risk assessments, and ensure all mechanical systems align with process and operational requirements.
  • Collaborate with process, electrical, instrumentation, and civil engineers to deliver fully integrated project solutions.
  • Ensure mechanical designs account for safety, efficiency, and maintainability, particularly in hazardous environments.
  • Provide engineering oversight during procurement, fabrication, installation, and testing of mechanical systems.
  • Offer technical support throughout project execution, resolving complex design, material, or site-related challenges.
  • Liaise with contractors, consultants, and suppliers to ensure project milestones are achieved on time and within budget.
  • Review vendor drawings, equipment specifications, and ensure compliance with contractual obligations.
  • Lead and support pre‑commissioning and commissioning activities, including functional testing of mechanical equipment and systems.
  • Oversee site acceptance testing (SAT), performance testing, and ensure equipment readiness for handover.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues during commissioning, coordinating with multidisciplinary teams for rapid resolution.
  • Prepare and maintain commissioning documentation, inspection reports, and ensure handover packages meet client and regulatory standards.
  • Ensure designs, fabrication, and installations comply with engineering standards, statutory regulations, and health & safety requirements.
  • Drive a culture of safety‑first engineering, ensuring compliance with pressure vessel codes, piping standards, and relevant industry practices (ASME, API, ISO, SANS, etc.).
  • Provide expert input into HIRA, HAZOP, and risk assessments.
Requirements
  • Professional Registration: Pr Eng or Pr Tech with ECSA (non‑negotiable).
Experience
  • 15+ years of progressive experience in mechanical engineering.
  • Proven track record in gas, natural gas, energy, or petrochemical projects (design, construction, commissioning).
  • Proven experience on gas turbines and natural gas energy production.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems including piping, pressure vessels, rotating equipment, and gas‑handling systems.
  • Proficiency in engineering software and design tools.
  • Strong stakeholder management and the ability to lead multidisciplinary teams.
